I have a similar problem with the same machine. I tried a custom driver install and selected the eHome remote install under the Microsoft section for drivers, I got a big warning that the driver was not for the device and then it still failed to start. I suspect something on the board acts like a USB hub and that fails. I've installed the Hauppauge drivers as well with no luck. I think the IR blaster is actually on the hauppauge HVR-1800 1850 card and that the card acts like a USB hub for the IR-blaster.

Download ehome.zip (314 KB) from win2012workstation. After downloading the zip extract the zip, run install.cmd as an Administrator and follow the instructions on the screen. Extract X_Audio_Input.zip and run install.cmd. Continue by installing the driver from the Driver folder via the Device Manager. EHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR) - Windows 7 Service. USB Consumer IR Driver for eHome by Microsoft Corporation. This service also exists in Windows 10, 8 and Vista.

I'll tinker with it tonight and see what I can find. Here is what fixed it for me.

Somehow it enumerated one of the USB hubs wrong during upgrade • I uninstalled the device from device manager (the unknown device with the exclamation mark) • Shut down • I detatched ALL usb headers from the motherboard and removed the interface cable to Hauppauge card. • Booted Started Windows. Checked device manager.

No failed devices • Shut Down • I re-attached ONLY the IR Remote receiver usb cable. To force a rededect I attached it to another USB header (it was on header 2 I put it on previously open header 1) • Booted • Windows detected the infrared remote, but but failed on another device (IR blaster?).

Capm Rita Mulcahy Rapidshare Premium more. I suspect it detected it as an eHome Remote not a Transceiver. Even so no failed devices.

And what do you know my remote works! • I wired all my USB cables that I previously detatched • I plugged in all USB devices (Logitech Headset, Portable Media Drive, HP monitor usb hub, Printer) • Booted Started Windows • Everything runs perfectly now J Here is the HP forum link.

Ok after millions of attempts trying all sorts of things i finally ended up shoving two headphones into the jack of the usb hub for the MCE remote and vaalla it worked got past the ir hardware detection although it doesn't control my set top box like it used to before in vista I'm satisfied for now till i get around to buying some IR bugs. I hope this helped because it sure drove me nuts Did you read my solution? Uninstall the device from device manager. Open the case. Disconnect the USB headers. Check that windows does not pick up the device. Connect the USB headers again (I used different ones to force a reload).

Restart and voila! EHome is a windows driver so no install disks needed. The H-P forums has more on this, but it is a USB enumeration problem. I know it's a bit late, but I have the same problem with an external card reader, using the same software. I'm pretty sure it's just an external version of the same device. Following the solution did not work for me however. When the computer has fully booted, the drivers instantly fail installing.

I never needed to install any drivers. Windows just needed to detect the device correctly. In the case of your external card reader I don't know. I would go to the manufacturer of the reader, since its external I assume you purchased it after-market. The problem in my case was simply that after the upgrade the device was not detected correctly.

I would take the external card reader and plug it into a different USB port, if it still fails again it is a completely different problem than described here. Did you check the device for compatibility prior to upgrade?

If its not supported. Card readers are cheap (. Well, it's the same issue with the 'eHome Infrared Transceiver' not properly running. The 'Detect the device properly' is the device automatically installing the drivers. Using different ports makes no difference, I have even tried it on 3 different computers.

However, they are all W7. I thought you said this was an external card reader? Is this a combined device (IR and card reader)? Since I suspect this device is more than just an IR transceiver it probably has a usb hub in it as well. If it doesn't have sufficient power it may fail so try not to plug it into another usb hub. Uninstall the device before moving it to a different USB port.

Mine is built in and directly wired to the Motherboard (Now that I think about it, it may be combined with my internal card reader as a single usb hub. I haven't checked that closely).

It is, there is nothing infrared about it, however for some reason it requires the eHome Infrared Tranciever' to run, it's probably just a reconstructed version of the built in remote device for this purpose. When you say 'requires' what do you mean? Is it detected as such? And how do you know its not other hardware on the computer? I just checked Geeks.com and the have 7 in 1 external card reader for $5. Try newegg and tigerdirect too.

I wouldn't waste any more time on a potentially faulty device. When you say 'requires' what do you mean? Is it detected as such? And how do you know its not other hardware on the computer?

Webbie 2014 Mixtape Download there. It is the drivers the device automatically installs and relies on. I just checked Geeks.com and the have 7 in 1 external card reader for $5. Try newegg and tigerdirect too. I wouldn't waste any more time on a potentially faulty device. I know, it's just that I just got it and wanted to just try to get it to work before I instantly got a new one.

These kind of devices cost about 25-30$ around here.

I hope this helped because it sure drove me nuts I'm using the MCE Remote Control and Receiver on a Windows 7 64bit system. This suggestion was the ticket!

My Receiver has two jacks for the IR Cable/Bug. One is already connected to the Comcast Set Top box and the other was empty. I plugged a headset cable into the empty jack during the setup process and Media Center finally recognized the IR Device and allowed me to proceed with the configuration. Since I'm using an IR Cable Bug in one of the jacks, it is allowing me to control channels. After the setup, I just removed the dummy headset from the transceiver box and everything continues to work perfectly.

I'm having a slightly different problem. My HP m9040n died a while ago.

I told HP I had a hardware problem, but they had me try a bunch of software repairs then a recovery (and then I had no luck restoring my files). Turns out my graphics card and motherboard were bad. Since then I have purchased a new aftermarket case, graphics card, power supply, motherboard, RAM. I took my computer to a shop to recover my old data.

(I was previously running Windows Vista Home Premium x32.) They upgraded me to Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Now I have to set up Live TV again and can not. I get the IR hardware not detected during setup. I am still using the OE TV tuner that came in the HP 9040. However, I'm not sure what parts I need to transfer over from the 9040 case to get the remote to work and set up Live TV. My 9040 has the remote sensor in the front card reader.

I never used the IR extender board out back to control other devices, and I don't want it in the new case unless it has to be there to get the TV / remote working. My extender board does not have IR Controller Electronics on it (no MOBO connector). I have tried connecting just the card reader to a MOBO USB, the card reader with the front connector port box connected to it and to the tuner card, the card reader with extender attached, etc. In my Device Manager the eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR) is recognized. I have tried uninstalling, shutting down, reconnecting multiple times.

The computer discovers the receiver and tranceiver receiver with no problem at startup. It continues to give an error (Red X) for an unknown device. I continue to get the unknown device in the device manager.

IS this what's holding up Live TV setup? I have not tried the headphone trick, but what would I plug it into since I'm moving parts to a new case? The front headphone input?

What hardware from the old case do I need at minimum to use the remote and set up Live TV? Card reader - YES. Front input Assy. That goes to card reader and tuner card? The HP Remote Solution Application Update didn't work for me either.

Upon trying to install, I'm told I don't meet system minimum requirements - update cancelled. I have the same 2.4G Quad core processor that came in the Pavilion case, same hard drives / DVD, an aftermarket ASUS MOBO running a single 4G card. It is worth noting that my new MOBO does not have the ports to connect the red and yellow cable ends from the front input. Could this cause the problem? I doubt it but am not sure.

Any suggestions? I found a simple solution that worked for me, it was driving me nuts, so glad when i found this. I tried the above solutions, didn't go so well and found this one on another site. If your usb receiver box has the red light constantly on then somethings wrong, it is receiving a signal from somewhere when it shouldn't, it should only light up when your pressing on the remote. Put any object on top of the box, the light will go out and you will be free to use your remote on it like you should.

Hope this helps someone. Make sure as Miina said to have the CONSUMER IR DEVICES part of your system devices. Then right click and remove the ehome. Dont restart. Right click in Device Manager to scan for new devices.

Next to your clock it shows the icon for searching for driver/installing new device. Click the link with the blue letters and makes sure the settings for it are set to look first at Windows Updates.

MS has the drivers for it! It will find it install it and then find a second device. It will find/install in Device manager couple devices and then you ll have youe ehome working fine!
