This post was published 9 years 10 months 5 days ago. Information might not be up-to-date. I recently formatted and decided to try Windows XP SP3. When it came to installing the drivers for my soundcard, everything seemed to go as normal, but when I restarted – no sound. After much searching I found that the “PCI Device” listed in the Device Manager was infact my soundcard – but it wouldn’t recognise the drivers and wouldn’t even let me force the correct driver to install on it – it seems my computer was totally unable to support the soundcard all of a sudden! Well, I ran this Microsoft Installer and instantly the hardware was found and XP correctly assigned the correct drivers to the card – phew! I am very likely to need this in the future (and it’s hard to find it on the ‘net!) so I have uploaded it to this post.

Now if only Realtek HD Audio only allowed users to work around the issue of not being able to hear the in-process captured video (by allowing users to select the audio output for the input), ref. Capture devices like KWorld’s PVR Plus which either it’s software and/or Realtek’s never got it right. When I try to change RHDA’s playback to the input, the tab changes to output (so no reversal is enabled and still I cannot hear the in-process capturing video’s audio, until after the capturing is stopped and I play the vid back).
Surely somebody must also have seen this annoyance and discovered how to fix it, as KWorld has absolutely no interest in fixing the issue (even when they still supported their dongle’s 2005 product). THANK YOU, MASTER:) I am deeply grateful for your fantastic page and the invaluable help you keep providing!!!!!!!!!!! After a few days and night of uneven struggle agains the ideas clash between Microsoft and Realtek, I came across your page, et voila!!!!! I had to clear old installations, of course (did so in rescue mode) – but it worked only after installing the patch you provided, all previous attempts ended in a depressing fiasco. Any time you are in Poland you are heartily invited for a crate of beer or a wagon of vodka:) No joke:) I hope you don’t mind sharing this web page with a couple of my friends:) All the best from Poland, and may you live long and prosper:).
Hello Everyone, My name is Eric. My audio does not work on my dell D420.
It had worked in the past. Then, I installed SP3, and now it doesn't work. I did a clean installed, installed SP3 then I started to install the various drivers for my laptop. When I try to install the driver from the drivers section, it extracts fine and the installer begins. Then I get to the screen that says something about updating hardware database. Once I get there, it tries to re-extract itself again, and then it wants to open another installer screen.
All that while the first one just quietly disappears. Thank you Message Edited by thejinx0r on 08:33 AM Edit: Sorry, I was a little curious to see what the 'Keep this message at the top of the board list' really did and didn't mean to sticky it. Message Edited by thejinx0r on 08:34 AM. C Program For Crc 1203. Eric, yours is the first message I've seen here about XP SP3 and I don't know if there is something specific about it that would interfere with installing the Sigmatel driver. It's possible that the installer isn't seeing the exact SP2 configuration it expects.
Are you aware of the following order of installation for the Sigmatel after reformatting? Install Dell Notebook System Software (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Ruse Keygen Photoshop. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver (click the + sign next to Chipset). Finally install the Sigmatel audio driver (click the + sign next to Audio).
Rarely there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In those cases follow this tip from forum member rpilT2005: check in the Device Manager for a 'PCI Device' with a yellow question mark next to it, under the 'System Devices' grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find the driver. I have installed, and reinstalled the 3 packages. It still won't allow me to install the audio driver.
Oddly enough though, after I attempt to install the audio driver, and reboot the computer, the audio installer pops up, and tries to install. It says something a long the line of 'this driver does not support the hardware'. Also, when I tried the device manager, whether I did auto or manual and selected the folder where the driver was extracted to, I still get a 'Hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.' :S Thanks for your help. Last time I did a clean install, before SP3 came out, I never had to install the dell utility thing. Message Edited by thejinx0r on 10:48 AM. I got it working now.
I'm not too sure what went wrong. Regardless, it works now. I think the culprit might have been FlyakiteOSX which modified some dll files. Anyways, what I did might sound odd, but worked. I reinstalled Windows XP from scratch with SP3 enabled.
I tried straight trying to install the Dell Utility, then the Intel Chipset S/W and then the Audio Drivers from Sigmatel. No go; same errors as before. So, I found on google that windows did not have the HD Audio driver, or at least a component of it, so I had to install the Realtek HD Audio Codec in order to make windows detect the Sigmatel 9200, at least as an audio device. I then proceeded with installing the Sigmatel Drivers as normal, and this time it finished installation and I was able to click finish. I didn't just disappear. So, now, my audio works.:D Not sure if it's because of SP3 that 'deleted' the drivers, but at least it works now.:D And that's all that matters to me.
