What did I hear when I listened to Trane and Monk together? Two musicians in their prime playing some of the best live recorded music you'll ever hear. This was found earlier this year after it was 'lost' or undiscovered since the 1957 performance at Carnegie Hall. It's remarkable.

I picture it like this. Trane, using his music to showcase his newfound strength in spirituality, with his eyes closed, blowing with all his might. Monk, ante being stepped up and enjoying it, brings his A-game as well. What does it produce? Somebody asked me why I named this joint The Smoking Section. Some of the greatest music of all time came from the jazz era.
